IRB Approved!

IRB Approved!

As you can probably guess from the title of this post, I have some exciting news. My colleague Penny Ralston-Berg (SME Whisper) and I just received word that our IRB on the Collaborative Content Design Model has been approved!

This model is such a passion project for us. The idea initially came about in 2018 when I was assigned to a project that my supervisor indicated was going to be a challenging one. It was apparent that traditional approaches were not going to work in this circumstance and to ensure the project was successful, I needed a new approach.

The Collaborative Content Design Model (CCD Model) actually came together quite easily when Penny and I put our heads together. We had both been thinking about how we could approach learning design differently for quite some time. When we finally started talking through what a new approach would look like, the ideas just started to flow and the CCD Model was born.

Check out the overview page on the CCD Model.

Once we had our ideas sketched on paper, Penny used her amazing graphic design skills to create a visualization of the process and a set of graphics which visually outline each aspect of the model. The graphics for each phase do a fantastic job of identifying the phase you are in, what the main goals are, and what the deliverables are. After creating these graphics, we knew we were ready to begin sharing our work with others.

We started submitting our proposal to several conferences and we realized we were onto something when the proposal started getting accepted to every conference we submitted to. OLC Innovate, OLC Accelerate, UPCEA, ITLC’s Lilly. And what was even more exciting was the feedback we received from the community. Our peers saw the value in the model, which meant one thing. We needed to conduct a research study to determine the efficacy and provide validation for the model.

Penny used her amazing IRB writing skills, and with the help of our colleague Laura Cruz, we submitted a proposal. We received a response very quickly. IRB Approved!
